The prickly pear I

The prickly pear cactus is associated with Sicilian landscapes, its resistance to high temperatures and lack of water. When I observe this plant, I like to think that each ficus leaf has its own life, a true "face," which I wanted to represent here, inspiring by the visionary artworks of the artists Mariano Pietrini and Enrico Baj.

The drawing is inspired by the myth of the birth of Venus, according to Hesiod's version.
She represents the goddess born from the union of the sea foam with blood. I wanted to represent the goddess as the famous Venus de Milo, missing an arm, not only as a tribute to the famous Hellenistic work, but to give it a more contemporary meaning: the strength of the feminine that rises from any situation, even the most painful, also the one that mutilates her physically and psychologically, to recover and always have the strength to start over.
