The heart plant I
Markers and pen on paper
35x27cm
2025
The work features a dynamic composition dominated by an intricate, thorny plant form. At its center is an element reminiscent of a heart—the most important organ in our body, associated with life and the deepest human emotions, such as love and fear. It is enveloped by sturdy leaves and sharp thorns that radiate outward.
I wanted to combine this human element with a natural one to represent a Nature that is not separate from us, but part of us. The heart-shaped plant is also depicted as an aggressive organ that defends against life’s dangers and sufferings through its numerous thorns.
The color palette focuses on intense shades of green, with transitions from the dark green of the background to vibrant yellow-green accents that define the volumes and the prickly texture. Deep shadows and bright highlights create a strong contrast, enhancing the three-dimensionality and complexity of the structure.

Heart's faces
Watercolours and pen on paper
35x25cm
2024
The work features a dynamic composition dominated by organic and stylized forms that cross together to evoke a heart, inspired by the sculptures of Sicilian artist Mariano Pietrini, founder of the Jalari Museum Park.
Shades of green and yellow create a strong contrast, with vibrant highlights that define sculptural volumes and almost metallic surfaces. Primitive faces emerge from the structure, lending it an enigmatic and visionary appearance. The watercolor technique is evident in the fluid gradations of the background and the sharp contours of the central figures.

The drawing depicts a finely detailed anatomical heart, whose veins and arteries are precisely outlined using a skillful ink technique. Cockroaches rest above the organ, symbolizing inner turmoil.
The intense shading and cross-hatching lend volume and an organic texture, creating a visual contrast between the heart’s vitality and the presence of the insects.
